Lulled by the beauty of Ranu Kumbolo at Mount Semeru East Java

This is My little adventure story about 2 years ago, about Our adventure in the higest land in Java Indonesia.

After a long time to plane trip to Mount Semeru ultimately with the destination of Ranu Kumbolo realized as well, We were originally 10 people so set three's, 3 day long trip that begins in October 2010 to the date of 8,9,10 taking Aroute Surabaya, East Java to Malang (IDR 7500 ), Malang to Tumpang (IDR 5000), Tumpang to Poncokusumo (IDR 5000) then Poncokusumo to Ranu Pani (IDR 75000). Earlier we heard that in the track to the top of Mount Semeru or we call it Mahameru closed, but not for Ranu Pane - Ranu Kumbolo - kalimati. The Probleme arise when we arrived at Tumpang. The Price for rentall a Jeep from Tumpang to Ranu Pane (the last village) is IDR. 350,000, (crazy cat .. we just only three with a very tight pocket ..!! So We waiting with hoping other group will comin’ and join with us. (though joint ventures cheaper  .. saving money right.. because of we waiting for long time, but no ones came eventually we decided to travel from Tumpang go up to Poncokusumo to ride public transportation (IDR.5000) till Poncokusumo we ride motorcycles (IDR. 75.000) to the last village Ranu Pane (2,100 masl). Ranu Pane is the last village with a lake (Ranu) and spot checks and post to report for the Hikers before to track, and also you find a hikers hut for the night and rest. Ranu Pane is a small village that domisili with vegetables farmer as majority. In the side of Ranu Pane you can find Ranu Regulo. After pass the hikers post we begin to track up at 01.00 PM sharp with taking a route in Ranu Pane- Watu Rejeng- Ranu Kumbolo with estimate 4 hours long.
Arriving at the welcome gate, we turned left towards the hills. Meanwhile, the streets are wide, straight towards the village of farming and vegetable plantations population. Tracking routes is ramps encircling hills, slopes and steep rare. Some conditions on the hillside path with a cliff on one side and a shallow ravine on the other side. In some places we had to go through fallen trees and ducked through the bushes that resemble caves above our heads. In some parts of the route looks reeds and Edelweiss. Although there is no direction, but the path is very clear and no branches and no distance marker stakes.
In general it is very enjoyable trip. The spirit is still high, still full of energy, logistics is still full, and the route was not bothersome. It's a good start after a pretty tiring with motorcycles up to Ranu Pane. After several hours of traveling, we arrived at the Watu Rejeng. The route is still the same, just ramps and shady. Only a limited point of view, because we are in valleys or hillsides.
From Watu Rejeng to Ranu Kumbolo track condition is still the same, just before the last hill before the bend in the direction of Ranu Kumbolo, fairly sharp upward trajectory. At the end of the ramp then we get a broad enough view. The most interesting of course to the right where the vast and quiet lake lay bluish awe anyone who saw it. That we call Ranu Kumbolo, a lake in the middle of nowhere that coveted mountainer  in the country. For who have not seen everything imaginable and a wonderful story about the mystery that sometimes blown-exhale. For those who never been there, imagine the beautiful scenery and the cool refreshing water, arousing the ascent that began to decline.
From the corner toward Pos Ranu Kumbolo not actually close, said Ranu Kumbolo 14 ha wide. Although clearly visible, but with along the edge of the Ascent Pos Ranu Ranu Kumbolo taken about 30 minutes. In this place we can find that pretty enclosed cottage Ascent and nice to relax and take refuge from the cold and wind, but at sometimes (especially New Year's Eve and 17 in August) this post will definitely full of hikers.  But don’t be worry, because this place is flat and wide so it's very easy to set up a tent.
we got Ranu Kumbolo at 19.00 pm. long time and delayed due to rain intercepted during the tracking. Ranu Kumbolo is a lake in the Tengger-Semeru Mountain with altitude 2500 meters above sea level can be very extreme temperatures untill below zero degrees ..You  can imagine the cold .. so if you want to do the trip here prepare a warm jacket and sleeping bags .. Flora located in the County of Mount Semeru diverse species but dominated by spruce, acacia, pine, grass, and white Edelwiss. Edelwiss there are many slopes along the Lineof Mount Semeru track. And also found several species of orchids. It is said that animals can still be found in this region include: Tiger Beetle, mongoose, deer, mouse deer, etc.. But in Ranu Kumbolo we can find grouse with wild activity. There is a many activity can be done her like fishing, cooking, water is very abundant in this place,, eittss but who want to come here Please KEEP THE WATER IN THIS LAKE CLEAN FROM YOUR WASTE. Remember that here we are NATURE LOVERS NOT NATURAL CONNOISSEUR..yahh..

di atas dinginnya air Ranu Kumbolo

on Ranu Kumbolo there are hiking trails that climb .. This hill climb called Tanjakan cinta .. (people said) ..

during afternoon..mist began to fall

Over the hill (tanjakan cinta) You will found a vast expanse of savanna pines towering above. Very Amazing .. anyway .. the area is called Oro-oro Ombo .. unfortunately our trip just to here, the night fell too long in Ranukumbolo perhaps because of the cold times ya .. hehehe…. ..

oro-oro ombo..full of savana view

October 10 th 2010, We are packing and prepare to go down, this time we passed a rather extreme path, the path worn villagers, Ranu Kumbolo, Panggonan Cilik, Bukit Ayek Ayek, then Ranu Pani. This Track has a steep contour and climb as direct split-Ayek Ayek hill located beside Ranu Kumbolo. Imagine carrying more load than 5 kilos on Our back and We hike step by step up.. I felt this knee feels got loose .. hahaha .. after passing hill-Ayek Ayek the track continue to drop down .. till  Ranu pani.

KNOWING A MOUNTAINEERING TENT

-->
The tent is one of the very major appliances must be owned by a hikers, because the tent will keep us from the weather that unfriendly.

There are many types of tents on the market. You must be careful in choosing them for extreme outdoor activities such as hiking or mountaineering.
Some of the requirements that must be owned by a decent extreme outdoor’s tent you can see below:

1.   High.
Tent for mountainering have lower contruction than a camping tent. It’s about 1 metres. Because the tent with lower consturction have better standing when exposed to strong wind.

2.   Material
Good tent have two part or double wall. Outer  and inner skin. Outer skin we call it Flysheet. Choose a Tent with nylon for Flysheet material with seam taped on each joint. Don’t choose a tent with flysheet using cotton material. Because You are in the Mountain, You don’t want to be freeze. But for inner skin you use to choose cotton material.
When you standing up the tent, Make sure that the tent have a distance between Flysheet and inner skin about one hand span. It is to prevent your inner part wet when the rain ouside part (flysheet). It will give you good respiration and isolation and keep your inner dry.

3.   Form
When you are looking for A Mountainering tent, Avoid choosing a tent that has a gaping open section, especially the upper part, because it would be exposure to wind, because the wind and the storm is the main obstacle when in altitude.
Dome, Or Geodesic?. Dome tents are a good compromise between stability, pitching time and weight. Although not as light for their size or as quick to pitch as a tunnels they are more stable. Dome tents however tend to have less head room, their highest point being located only at one point in the centre. The lack of head room is usually worked around by adding extra poles to make space for porches or bedrooms. These add-ons are effectively single pole tunnels and have the same advantages and draw backs.
Geodesic tents are the most stable tents available. Though heavy and complex to erect, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks if you are pitching your tent on a mountain and want it to stay there. This pole configuration is so strong that it can withstand heavy snow fall that would crush all other types of tent.

4.   Frame
Wich one frame do you need? There are 2 types of farme, Fibre glass or Aluminium. Fibre glass frame is cheaper than Aluminium Frame. But Fibre glass frame easily broken.

5.    Vestibule or Whithout Vestibule?. Vestibule is a room located in front of tent entry. With vestibule you can save your equipment there, you can cook when outside raining.
6.    Guylines
mountaineering tent certainly have straps fasteners particular section which is useful for resilience in the face of a tent in the mountain breeze. ropes are generally placed at points Of frame construction provide additional strength to frame so as not to break.

7.   The Bottom of Tent
There are many kind bottom of tent that you can find in the market. Choose the tent with waterproofing material for bottom side. You can make a footprint underneath. With adding footprint you can reduce the friction between your bottom tent with ground. You can avoid infiltration of water from bottom.

8.  Weight
Choose a tent with normalize weight for mountaineering. Remember, because you ‘ll brought so much equipment in your Backpack or sack.
